Taking your gaming experience a notch higher with fast DRAMs and SSDs

Antoine Harb, Team Leader Middle East and North Africa at Kingston Technology explains the best ways to configure DRAMS and SSD for enhanced gaming performance.

The global gaming industry has grown exponentially over the years. According to the World Economic Forum (WEF), the number of gamers worldwide had reached an estimated 2.7 billion in 2020. A report released by Mordor Intelligence projected that the global market will register a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.64 per cent during 2021-2026 to reach USD 314.40 billion. The increase has become even more pronounced today, with many people staying at home due to the pandemic.

With their popularity, video games have evolved rapidly to become more challenging and sophisticated. For hardcore PC gamers, this calls for a computer that is not only in tip-top condition but also with a performance that can match the demanding tasks that come with gaming.  But optimizing one’s PC is not a walk in the park.

If you are a gamer, you know of the various components and specifications that you must take into account before making the most suitable purchase for your gaming rig. For the best gaming experience, you have to consider different aspects such as memory, storage, operating system, CPU, graphics card, and many more. Amid complexities and wide-ranging choices, selecting what fits can be daunting.

Among numerous considerations, let’s zero in on memory and storage solutions.

Speed is everything

In terms of speed, having enough memory is critical as game loading times rely on your device’s memory capacity. Better and faster PC performance can be achieved if you have sufficient memory. More importantly, it makes the whole experience during gameplay as realistic as possible. Insufficient memory leads to slow, poor performance, with a negative impact on your gaming experience.

Dynamic-Random Access Memory (DRAM) helps in the performance improvement department. DRAM is an area in the computer system where information is temporarily stored for quicker access and processing of data, including gaming programs, stored in your PC. More DRAM equates to more space for your computer to store temporary information. For gaming, this means a significant boost to the system’s responsiveness and overall speed.

DRAM comes in various speeds and generations, namely DDR3, DDR4, and DDR5. The DDR4 generation, which operates at a lower voltage, is more efficient than DDR3. Upon its expected release this year, DDR5, meantime, will bring a substantial increase in speed and capacity at even lower voltage than DDR3.

The memory capacity you need largely depends on your gaming requirements. For the latest game releases, many require a minimum of 16GB of RAM to let you play while leaving other background tasks running. If you use your PC for other tasks aside from gaming, 32GB could be the right choice for you. A 32GB of RAM update also allows you to future-proof your PC for upcoming game releases.

Rapid loading and transfer times

Apart from DRAM, the right solid-state drive (SSD) can make a huge difference in the general performance of your PC as well. SSDs work by permanently storing data in your computer system. This compact and fast storage solution is designed to improve the existing system of your computer thanks to its more impressive boot, loading, and transfer times in comparison to mechanical hard drives.

While the right SSD makes the entire PC system quicker and ultra-responsive, the drive also runs silently— thus elevating your overall gaming experience. While playing, an SSD does not only save you more time but also ensures a smooth overall game flow.

Ultimately, it all boils down to selecting the right DRAM and SSD for your system. Few pieces of hardware are more integral to competitive gaming than memory. The blazing speeds and smooth runtimes offered by top-tier RAM and SSDs are essential in games where wins and losses are often determined in split seconds.

Meanwhile, amid the growing demand for exceptional memory and storage solutions, Kingston Technology is poised to release its new Kingston FURY Renegade gaming SSD later this year to add to its product portfolio.
