Epomaker recently released its Galaxy 70 gaming keyboard, featuring a sturdy chassis, enhanced sound isolation, tri-mode connectivity, a robust battery, and more. We got a chance to try out the new keyboard, and here are our thoughts about the device.
The Epomaker Galaxy 70’s design is based on a 75% compact layout, featuring a durable aluminum casing. The dimensions of the device are 350.6 x 140.9 x 32.5mm, and the keyboard weighs 1.79 kg. The design of the keyboard is influenced with the layout of the previous Galaxy 80 TKL keyboard, and the new model features a total of 82 keys.
And while this keyboard features a smaller 75% layout, Epomaker managed to make space for an extra knob, used for media and volume controls. The knob features a metal construction that gives a premium feel while using it. Epomaker also ensured that the keyboard comes with the essential keys such as Print Screen, Home, Page up/down, and Delete.
The Epomaker Galaxy 70 also includes a lightbar indicator, located in between the directional keys and the Del/Page keys. The keyboard’s metallic case helps to enhance the feel and aesthetics of the device. The electrostatic powder coating finish on the case helps for more durability that is good for both gaming enthusiasts and professionals.
The keyboard also features hot-swappable sockets so users will be able to change the switches. The sockets also come with south-facing LEDs. The Galaxy70 comes with Zebra pre-lubed linear switches for both the Grey and Black Pink colors. And as you can see, we got the Grey color model for review. The keycaps are available with a choice of either Cherry or MDA profiles, and the keycaps are made of Double-Shot PBT.
There is the USB-C port on the top side of the keyboard, along with an On/Off switch for Bluetooth or 2.4 GHz wireless connectivity. We also need to mention that the 2.4 GHz dongle slot is placed near the lightbar indicator for easy access. The bottom of the keyboard features a silicon feet, so the keyboard stays firm on the surface.
To enhance the acoustics, the keyboard houses a 5-layer sound-improving structure, and this includes a PORON sandwich form, an IXPE switch pad, an EMDP switch form, and a PET bottom pad. The combination of these layers helps for clean, noise-free keystrokes for a satisfying sound while typing. There is also a flex-cut PP plate that also helps too produce a “thock” sounds, thanks to its lower density. There is also a pre-lubed plate-mounted stabilizer on the keyboard.
Here is a video of how the Zebra pre-lubed linear switches sound on the Galaxy70 keyboard. Take a look.
We should also mention that the keyboard houses a 4000 mAh battery for extended wireless work or gaming sessions, and its charged with the included USB-C cable.
