Epomaker has released some great custom keyboards for 2025, featuring custom switches, unique designs, and smooth and resonant typing experiences. We got a chance to try out the new Epomaker Cypher 81, and here are our thoughts about the new keyboard.
Design
The design of the new Cypher 81 does remind us of previously released models such as the Epomaker x LEOBOG Hi75 or the Epomaker x AULA F75 keyboards. The device features a dimension of 335mm x 145mm x 44mm, and weighs about 1.2 kg. The keyboard uses Cherry profile keycaps, and the chassis is white in color and made of ABS plastic material. There are a total of 81 keys on the Cypher 81.
Along with the volume control knob on the top left side of the keyboard, there is a 0.85-inch TFT smart screen display that showcases live updates and active modes of the keyboard. This includes time, battery life, lighting settings, connection modes, and more. Epomaker has also included an RGB lightbar strip on the right side of the keyboard.
Speaking of RGB, the backlit lighting system of the keyboard is capable of supporting up to 16+ million colors and can be easily customized.
On the top-left side of the keyboard, there is the switch for changing between Bluetooth, USB, or 2.4G connectivity modes, along with a USB-C port, and another switch to choose between Windows and Mac modes. We think the Windows/Mac switch is a great addition.
There isn’t much there on the bottom panel of the keyboard, except for the kickstands, pads, and an Epomaker Cypher 81 insignia.
Among the contents of the box are the Epomaker Cypher 81, a USB cable, a user manual, and a keycap/switch puller tool.
Features
The Cypher 81 features a gasket structure that helps for a pleasant typing experience. The sound-dampening gasket structure includes a Poron sound-absorbing cotton, an IXPE switch pad, a PET sound enhancement pad, a Poron sandwich form, bottom silicone, silicon pad, and a spacebar EVA foam.
The device comes with hot-swappable switch sockets, and Epomaker offers the Cypher 81 with a choice of Wisteria Linear or Flamingo Linear switches. Our review sample came with the latter option.
We should mention that the switch sockets come with a south-facing RGB backlight system. Take a look at how the Epomaker Cypher 81 sounds with the Flamingo switches.
The keyboard also houses a large 4000 mAh battery, which should be able to last for a few days of use with RGB lighting and wireless modes turned on. The keyboard also uses the power-efficient Bluetooth 5.0 technology.
