ASUS is one of the few brands that not only offers high-end PC components, gaming laptops, and desktops but also sells gaming accessories such as gaming keyboards, mice, and headsets. We got the chance to try out the ASUS TUF Gaming H1 Wireless and here are our thoughts about the device.

Design

The TUF Gaming H1 Wireless is designed to provide a comfortable gaming experience while playing for extended gaming sessions with stellar audio quality. The headphone weighs only 295g, thanks to its lightweight suspension headband and a fabric strap that is designed to enhance flexibility and reduce pressure across the top of the head.

The texture of the ear cups features 100% protein leather for a comfortable and prolonged gaming session. We were impressed with how comfortable was it to wear the headphone for prolonged use.

ASUS has integrated all the onboard controls on the left-sided earcup. You have a dedicated button to turn on or off the microphone, a volume rocker that actually doesn’t turn as a normal dial, the power button, a status indicator, and a USB-C port for charging duties.

The outer portion of the earcups comes with a glossy TUF insignia and there is a unidirectional analog boom microphone attached to the left-sided earcup. ASUS mentions that the mic is fine-tuned to offer clean voice communications and is certified for use with Discord and TeamSpeak applications.

For further compatibility, the headphone comes with a USB-C dongle that allows gamers to connect the headphone wirelessly to a PC or a PlayStation 5 console. ASUS also provides a USB-C to USB-A adapter, in case there isn’t any USB-C port on your desktop or laptop. While the headphone is designed to be completely wireless, we hoped that the device came with a 3.5mm audio port onboard, but that isn’t the case here.

ASUS mentions that the TUF Gaming H1 Wireless is not only compatible with PCs and the PS5, but also works with the PS4, Nintendo Switch, smartphones, tablets, and also Macs. The packaging also includes a 1m USB-C charging cable.

Features

The new ASUS TUF H1 series headphones feature 40mm ASUS Essence audio drivers with neodymium magnets that are capable of delivering immersive audio with deep bass effects during gaming and otherwise. The headphone also packs airtight chambers that help to produce richer and purer sounds. The audio frequencies range between 20 Hz and 20kHz, along with 60 Ohms of impedance.

The headphone also has support for Virtual 7.1 surround sound which helps to provide an elevated level of audio precision during competitive gameplay sessions. You will be able to adjust the settings with the Windows Sonic and the ASUS Armoury Crate application. The Discord-certified unidirectional boom mic features a sensitivity of -45B and can pick audio signals with frequencies ranging between 100Hz and 10kHz. ASUS has given a lot of emphasis on how wide can the headphone cover in terms of wireless connectivity.

The device depends on 2.4GHz wireless technology with a dual-antenna design for coverage up to 25 meters, along with lower latency for a more stable connection with the included USB-C dongle as compared to Bluetooth headphones. We tried the dongle and the headphone with gaming laptops and a PS5, and the headphone pairs instantly without any need to manually connect the device. In the case of the PS5, the dongle needs to be connected to the main console.

However, out of curiosity, we tried connecting the dongle to the Dual Sense PS5 controller but the headphone did not connect. While the speaker portion of the headphone does not offer any active noise-canceling functionality, the mic does feature AI Noise Cancellation. The audio quality is good and we were able to hear most of the details of the gameplay, some of the highs and lows that you may not hear with normal speakers.

When it comes to battery life, ASUS mentions that the TUF H1 Wireless can last up to 15 hours of non-stop usage. Or it can last for up to 8 days of casual gameplay and music playback, with an average of two hours of playtime per day.

Verdict

If you’re looking for a good gaming headset that delivers good audio quality for gameplay on consoles and PCs, along with good wireless connectivity and wearing comfort, then consider the ASUS TUF Gaming H1 Wireless headphones. The headphones feature a sturdy design and weigh less, thanks to its lightweight suspension headband. The earcups are made of 100% protein leather for enhanced wearing comfort and there is also a boom pic that is designed to work with apps such as Discord.

The headphone features 40mm audio drivers for an immersive audio experience and deep bass effects, along with airtight chambers that help to produce richer audio. The headphone is capable of covering up to 25m of distance for wireless connectivity, thanks to its 2.4 GHz dual antenna design, along with a low latency connection with the USB-C dongle that offers compatibility for a variety of platforms.
