ASUS continues to expand its gaming keyboard portfolio, with several keyboard sizes available for different users. We got a chance to try the new ROG Falchion Ace, a 65% compact gaming keyboard with pre-lubed ROG NX mechanical switches, and here are our impressions.
The ROG Falchion Ace’s compact form factor is designed to hold 65% of the keyboard area within a 60% frame, including the arrow and navigation keys. The device’s physical dimensions are 305.79 x 101 x 37.5mm, and the keyboard weighs about 599g for the PBT variant (excluding the cable). One of the most interesting features that I came across about the Falchion Ace is that it has not one, but two different USB-C ports, placed on the left and right ends of the front portion. This kind of configuration allows users to choose which port side they would like to have the USB-C wire connected to for clean cable management.
While some may think that having dual USB-C ports means we can connect to other USB external devices, that is not the case, and there is a port selector in between these ports which allows only one port to be operational. The keyboard also features a touch-based volume controller on the left side, something that I’ve already seen on other ASUS keyboards like the previous generation Falchion keyboard.
The bottom side of the keyboard features dual keyboard stands that can be adjusted for different angles. There is also a reflective ROG logo on the bottom panel, along with gamer-centric cuts and curves as part of its design.
The ROG Falchion Ace is not just about its compact form factor. It features ASUS’s latest ROG NX series mechanical switches. The NX switches are known for their lubricated stem and housing, which results in smoother clicks, fast actuation, consistent keystrokes, and the elimination of bouncing noises. ASUS offers the Falchion Ace with ROG NX Red, Blue, and Brown. And as you can see, we received the ROG NX Red version for a linear and swift typing experience.
ASUS also mentions that the keyboard houses a sound-dampening form, designed to absorb pinging noises and echoes, resulting in improved acoustics. We should also mention that the keyboard comes with the ROG PBT DoubleShot keycaps, which offer a premium feel while you type or play games. The PBT DoubleShot keycaps are also more durable for long-lasting performance. The device also makes use of specially tuned and lubricated ROG Switch Stabilizers that help reduce keystroke friction, and this applies to keys such as Spacebar, Shift, and Enter keys.
Other features include onboard memory that can save up to six different profiles, 100% anti-ghosting and n-key rollover capability, macro recordings, Per-Key RGB LEDs with support for AURA Sync, a 1000Hz USB report rate, and touch panel/windows key locks for uninterrupted gameplay. ASUS has also included a portable keyboard cover case to protect the device while you carry it around.
The keyboard is also available in white. Along with the keyboard, you also get a detachable braided cable, a quick start guide, a ROG sticker, and a warranty booklet. For those looking for a great compact keyboard that does offer some level of customization regarding cable management along with an excellent typing experience, the ASUS ROG Falchion Ace is a good choice to consider. The keyboard features a 65% build and features the latest ASUS ROG NX switches, along with PBT DoubleShot keycaps, a sound-dampening form factor, and more. The dual USB-C ports also give users the flexibility to choose the angle of cable connection that they prefer. The keyboard also has a touch panel that helps control the volume.
