nubia unveils Red Magic 6 series with 165Hz AMOLED display and Snapdragon 888 SoC

nubia announced the latest Red Magic 6 series of gaming smartphones. There is the Red Magic 6 and the Red Magic 6 Pro smartphones, in which the latter sporting more memory, and faster charging.

The main spotlight for both the devices is the 6.8-inch AMOLED display that features a fast refresh rate of 165Hz, along with FHD+ screen resolution. The screen can drop down to as low as 30Hz when dynamic content is not shown and increases to 120Hz and above for supported applications and games. The multi-touch sampling rate is 360Hz, and up to 500Hz for one-finger operation. The display also features 10-bit colors for better color reproduction. There is also the fingerprint scanner that is embedded within the display.

For an enhanced gaming experience, the Red Magic 6 series also sports the shoulder trigger touch-sensitive buttons with up to 400Hz touch sampling rate for lower input latency. The new gaming smartphones also feature faster cooling fans, where the Red Magic 6’s fan can hit up to 18,000 RPM speeds, and Pro model up to 20,000 RPM, along with copper heat sinks. Speaking of which, the Snapdragon 888 chip is joined by 8GB/12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB/256GB of internal storage, while the Pro version comes with a massive 18GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 512GB UFS 3.1 storage. There are also 12GB RAM models for the Pro. However, none of the Red Magic 6 series feature MicroSD card expansion.

The smartphone runs on Android 11 OS and with Red Magic 4.0 skin. Both the smartphones come with a triple-camera configuration, consisting of a 64MP main shooter with f/1.8 aperture, an 8MP camera for ultra-wide shots, and a 2MP snapper for macros. The main camera is capable of 8K video recording at 30fps and 4K videos up to 60fps. Both smartphones come with an 8MP selfie snapper.

Both the smartphones also come with a 3.5mm audio jack. Another difference between the two models is that the base model comes packed with a 5050 mAh battery with 65W of fast charge support. However, while we would expect the Pro model to come with a bigger battery, the Red Magic 6 Pro holds a smaller 4500 mAh battery but does have double the charging power up to 120W. The device is able to charge from 0-50% in just 5 minutes. That’s something interesting.

Both the Red Magic 6 and the Red Magic 6 Pro are set to release in China soon. However, there is no word yet on the availability of the new devices for the Middle East.
