One of the more popular guns in Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode is the SMG. However, the weapon is unbalancing things somewhere along the line. Hence, Epic has decided to remove it and hide it in the so-called Vault, at least for the time being.
Variants of the weapon will remain, and the “Tactical SMG and the Suppressed SMG will still drop,” according to a post by Epic on Reddit, but the basic model is going away for a still-to-be-determined period of time. “As we add more weapons, consumables, and other item types, we want to make sure that the balance of itemization isn’t ruined,” an Epic rep explained. “Expect more items to be released (and likewise vaulted!) in the future. And of course, items will often come back out of the Vault when the timing is right.”
Last week’s update saw Epic adding a crossbow to a free-to-play mode, with Battle Royale doing tremendously well for the developer. With guns coming in and out of the rotation, it seems as though the studio is committed to keeping the experience fresh and balanced.
