Dell seeking to ensure the gaming community thrives in the region

Games MEA speaks with Raghav Koorichh, Category & Brand Manager- META, CEE & Russia at Dell about the growing culture of Gaming and how is Dell working towards being part of the Gaming landscape in the region.

How would you describe your experience at ME Games Con 2018 held at Abu Dhabi?
At Games Con 2018 in Abu Dhabi this year, Dell Gaming teamed up with Bravado Gaming to host a Fortnite Challenge, giving away hefty rewards and making this gaming event the ultimate battleground. The interactive and popular activation at the industry event earned Dell Gaming the ‘Best Activation’ award at the Games Con Annual Exhibitor Awards 2018. The event was definitely a success for us as the activation and products not only attracted visitors to the stand but also ensured that they were active participants. We witnessed tremendous interest among gamers present at the event who had the opportunity to display their gaming skills on Dell Gaming’s superior gaming products including the Alienware Aurora, Alienware Area-51, Dell G3 and G5 Gaming laptops.

What kind of growth are you expecting from your gaming business and what is your current market share in the regional market?
The gaming industry has changed at such an exponential rate over the years. Once a niche hobby, explored primarily by teenage boys and serviced by a handful of companies, the gaming market is expected to grow at a 6% compounded annual growth rate globally through 2019 as per a research commissioned by Dell. As a leader in this industry for more than 20 years with our Alienware brand, Dell is leveraging our deep understanding of PC gaming to increase our investments and offerings to gamers. We introduced several new PC innovations in the last year and you’ll continue to see us invest in Gaming, new PC devices and form factors with the most immersive computing experiences. As a global leader in technology, Dell and Alienware aim to be leaders in the scene and bring in our hardware, partners, and internal capabilities to drive innovation and new technology standards for esports overall.

What are the latest technology trends that are impacting the gaming industry?
With PC gaming’s explosion in popularity have come many new hardware and software entrants, introducing innovation and competition as well as driving down costs, which has lured even more intrigued spectators into the gaming world. Technologies such as Robotics, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning, Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR), and Cloud Computing, are reshaping the industry to create immersive experiences. Even with the growing accessibility of VR headsets and VR systems, there is still great opportunity for VR growth amongst PC gamers.

How is Dell cultivating the gaming culture in the region?
Global revenue for the esports industry is forecasted to reach $1.4B by 2020. But long before esports was credited as a billion dollar industry, Dell (with Alienware) was there throughout its infancy. As the first major PC OEM to get involved, we supported one of the earliest major esports tournaments back in 2007, the Championship Gaming Series, and have since then proudly sponsored historic franchises like Team Liquid for more than 10 years.

In the region, Dell Gaming has teamed up with Bravado Gaming to find, nurture and support the next generation UAE esports team. Based in South Africa, Bravado Gaming is Africa’s premiere multi-gaming organization and serves home to some of the best local and international competitive gamers (esports) while simultaneously building a lifestyle, gaming brand. It is their aim to help the progression of esports both locally and internationally by raising levels of competition and increasing public involvement and developing corporate opportunities. Post a thorough assessment, Dell Gaming and Bravado Gaming, together will identify and rank pro gamers from the Middle East according to their experience and performance at gaming engagements. These top ranking gamers will then proceed to be a part of UAE’s first esports team.

Earlier this year, Dell Gaming unveiled Ready to Game ME, a one-stop portal that fosters positive interactions among gamers of all levels in the region. With PC gaming’s explosion in popularity driving cut throat innovation and competition, Ready to Game ME is designed as a gaming community to engage with players and fans across the Middle East region. Users can access this online hub from anywhere and at any time to find the latest news on gaming technology and titles as well as exchange information on gaming events from across the world.

As the leaders in the gaming domain, what advice would you like to give enthusiasts and gamers in the region?
The evolution of online gaming and multiplayer gaming environments has unfortunately also led to a rise in virtual crime. As part of the community, Dell Gaming wants to ensure the regional gaming environments are healthier, accepting and more tolerant. We urge gamers to ensure that they stay safe and protected when gaming online by taking the necessary precautions of a strong password, online anonymity, refraining from sharing personal details and clicking on dangerous third party links. Through safe gaming initiatives in the region, we are actively seeking to ensure the gaming community thrives while upholding values of online safety.
