AppGallery, one of the top three application marketplaces, by Huawei, successfully organised the first edition of AppGallery Gamers Cup in collaboration with Garena Free Fire. The event took place from 8th December 2021 to 29th December 2021, where top gamers in high numbers participated across each category from around the Middle East and North Africa. The winning team, Oxygen, was rewarded with $15,000, while the runner up team, NA9ABA STARS N, won a prize of $10,000. Miracles, the second-runner team secured a prize of $5,000.
The event attracted participation and attention from 13 countries including Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Qatar, Oman, UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Libya, Jordan and Iraq; totalling over 4,000 registrations. The event also saw substantial participation of 424 female gamers across all categories.
The live-stream hosted on AppGallery and Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) social channels provided participants, viewers and supporters to witness a power-packed gaming action in real-time with guest comments made by Amr “Origin”, Sofian “Makaveli”, and Boughrib.
In the spirit of the event, the captain of the winning team Oxygen highlighted, “It is indeed a great opportunity for budding mobile gamers in the region to showcase their skills and be given a platform to contribute in the ever-growing gaming arena. This virtual tournament has allowed players from different parts of the MENA region to come together and witness truly transformative and energetic gameplay. Garena Free Fire has been downloaded more than 1 billion times on Android devices alone, becoming the first mobile battle royale game to achieve this milestone.
