You have a dedicated zone at GITEX Shopper, so what can shoppers expect to get?
We have been present at GITEX Shopper for many years now and the experience has become better and better every year. Our zone here sells high-end MSI gaming laptops and also gives shoppers the chance to play some games and experience VR gaming. We have had a lot of interesting and enthusiastic feedback, especially from serious gamers and everyone seems to be enthusiastic to try things out.
How would you describe the gaming scene in the region?
Well, gaming has always been popular, but in recent years it has become more accessible and affordable, because of which more and more people are taking to it. There are plenty of new games coming out every day and laptops are also becoming customizable and more pocket-friendly. Moreover, there are lots of gaming related events being held in the region, particularly the UAE, and gamers are also getting significant global attention and visibility. So yes, the MENA region is witnessing an exciting era in games and gaming.
What about laptop gaming, in particular? Do you think it can compete with the phenomenal rise in mobile gaming?
I’d say yes. Laptop gaming has its own unique niche and can rival mobile gaming any day. Laptop gaming is for serious gamers-those who love the whole gaming experience and devote a significant amount of time for games and gaming. They like to plan, strategize and play their games on the wide screen, enjoy special sound effects, and even compete in gaming tournaments. Those who play games on the mobile are casual gamers-they play when travelling, while waiting for a doctor’s appointment, when they feel bored, while eating out alone-basically just to pass the time. They may not even play a full game from beginning to end; they may stop halfway, may not use their headphones-there are a lot of ifs and buts. So I’d say both mobile and laptop gaming have their own distinct followers and one will never overtake the other.
